| About Sifu Quan | |
The CCU's director and founder, Tylus "Quan" Do, was born in Saigon in 1975, at the end of the Vietnam War. Even though martial arts movies were forbidden to show in Vietnam, Quan was inspired to learn martial arts after hearing the movie stories of Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan in the early 1980’s. "My parents never permitted me to start martial arts so young as they were afraid it would stunt my growth". Finally in 1989, he started individual sports, wrestling, weight-lifting and fitness after moving to the United States. Choi Kwon Do, a Korean and American blend of martial was the first martial art Quan attempted, but it quickly became an expensive commercialized ordeal. Finally in 2000, "Bert, a Wing Chun Gung Fu instructor, after almost 2 years searching for a dedicated student and training partner found me in a gym practicing kickboxing on a heavy bag, and from that point on my martial arts journey begins…". After 4 intensive months into Wing Chun training, Mixed Martial Arts was introduce into the program by Sifu Wayne Jackson, arts including Jeet Kune Do, Muay Thai, Boxing, Savate, Kali and Escrima.
Quan became a personal friend and dedicated student of Sifu Randy Williams under the CRCA Wing Chun system. He is now the Instructor Representative directly under Sifu Randy Williams, the founder of Close Range Combat Academy.
In 2002, Ron Hebb, Director of Fitness for the United States Marine Corp in Virginia, a senior classmate and close friend of Quan hosted a spectacular seminar instructed by Guru Cass Magda in Arlington, Virginia U.S.A. Shortly after the seminar, Ronnie and Quan went to Magda Institute in Reseda, California based upon an invitation by Guru Cass Magda, founder of Magda Institute, to try out the classes and they both fell in love head-over-heel with all these combat arts. Over the last 5 years, Quan extensively practice and teaches the CRCA Wing Chun and Magda Institute curriculum while integrating a unique blend of Wing Chun Silat theories and principles. |
